Backstage Backstage #17

Consuming podcasts like PB&J

Adam and Jerod sit down to answer a listener question (Hi, Alex! ๐Ÿ‘‹) about how we podcast. Not how we create podcasts, but how we consume podcasts. Along the way we share an update on our comments feature, discuss the Apple Podcasts rollout debacle (and how it affected us launching Ship It!), and give a few personal recommendations of podcasts weโ€™re listening to.

Nice! A look behind the curtain with our favorite celebrity podcasters :D Just want to throw in a plug for my fav podcast player: iCatcher. Has all the right switches, sliders and knobs to allow me to just press play and hear everything in my own custom, auto-sorted order.

I know you guys donโ€™t, but I love the idea of you doing videos! Put some faces to the familiar smewth warm tones. I wanna see if itโ€™ll be like the first time I saw Teri Gross on TV. Oh wait, you already live stream your eps. I can watch those already.

Anyway, thanks for all the hard work, I love the whole changelog offering!

Thanks for saying so! I havenโ€™t heard of iCatcher before, will def check it out.

(I love that thereโ€™s a rich ecosystem of podcast apps to suit everyoneโ€™s needs/likes)

Yup, we stream to YouTube for some of our shows, but we never have with Backstage before. Open to it, though. Why not?!

Hey guys ๐Ÿ‘‹,

Thanks for putting on this episode for me! This is the first time that I have ever had a whole podcast about a topic that I have written in to a podcast before, so this was very cool for me to hear! ๐Ÿ˜

I loved listening to this episode, and all the different features that you two use! Glad it was more engaging than @jerod had thought ๐Ÿ™‚.

Those are such cool features that you both have for those apps! Especially being able to upload your own mp3s to apply the same things you normally use your podcast app for, that is really cool! Also, I didnโ€™t realize that you all use a podcasting app for the intro clips ( IIRC, that is what Jerod said in the podcast ).

I had saved the URLs for the two apps that you both mentioned ( https://overcast.fm/ & https://www.castro.fm/ ), and I realized that they are both Apple only ๐Ÿ˜ข. I actually have an android phone, but it was cool to see the features that are possible if people are creative enough ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, that sucks about the Apple Podcast situation! I am glad that you got it all resolved though. I have listened to every episode of Ship it! it has been awesome! ๐Ÿ˜

Also, really like the title and hearing your preferences about speed and what you listen to, thank you again! ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™Œ

Happy to hear you enjoyed it! We should do more like this.

Yeah, unfortunately the indie podcast app scene is more vibrant on iOS than Android, but Iโ€™ve heard good things about Podcast Addict. What app do you use to listen?

Thatโ€™s great! I have to agree with you. @gerhard is doing an excellent job with it.

Definitely! I just submitted another one asking about โ€œHow you produce podcastsโ€, because it seems like a really cool workflow ( from what I remember hearing on disparate episodes ) ๐Ÿ™‚

Cool, I will check it out! I use castbox, but there are a lot of lacking features that I wish I could have. Also, this episode opened my eyes as to other features that I didnโ€™t even know of/think about ๐Ÿ˜…. The main thing that I like ( from castbox ) is that I can comment on each episode with timestamps, and it will jump to that time in the episode.
