Postgres_ext continues to improve Rails' PostgreSQL ActiveRecord Adapter
Rails 4 brought with it many improvements to ActiveRecord’s PostgreSQL adapter. Many of these features — including support for powerful Postgres data types like arrays — first lived in the popular postgres_ext gem before getting merged in to Rails proper.
Rails 4 is out and used en masse, but Dan McClain hasn’t rested on his laurels with adding Postgres-specific goodies to ActiveRecord.
Posgtres_ext 2.1.0 adds support for Common Table Expressions and the rank() windowing function.
Who knows, if these and other postgres_ext features gain enough steam, we may end up seeing them in Rails 4.1…
You can read more about it on the DockYard blog and don’t forget to contribute to the gem’s development on GitHub!
