Software development topics I've changed my mind on after 6 years in the industry ↦
I love this post format and may do one myself here soon. It’s just lists of things Chris Kiehl changed his mind on over the years, opinions he’s picked up along the way, and old opinions he hasn’t changed. This opinion made me chuckle:
90% – maybe 93% – of project managers, could probably disappear tomorrow to either no effect or a net gain in efficiency.

When I saw this on Wednesday, that same one made me laugh. 😂 I sent it around asking others in my group what was their favorite too

The combination of the shockingly high percentage followed by the potential of a 3% upgrade is what got me. 🤣 I’ve only ever worked on small teams (and orgs), but IMHO the project manager:
a) should be a team member (a developer or a designer)
b) should be concerned with leading not managing

Yeah, that uptick was what really made me laugh as well. 😊
With that being said though, I really do believe that some project managers are absolutely worth their weight in gold. I honestly wouldn’t be able to keep track of everything that needs to be done on some projects without them.
But a lot of us have seen some PM’s that just “manage” a project to death and do nothing more than get in the way of me actually getting things done. 🤷♂️
