Regarding the bit of the show about the “universal package manager for all your shell scripts”, you both should look at Nix, the package manager. It supports doing exactly what you guys were talking about and a whole lot more. I have discovered it in the past 6 months and love it enough to create an account to leave this comment!
In fact, I would love a Changelog or ShipIt interview with someone about the project.
