Brave adds support for IPFS

Brave CTO Brian Bondy:

IPFS is an exciting technology that can help content creators distribute content without high bandwidth costs, while taking advantage of data deduplication and data replication. There are performance advantages for loading content over IPFS by leveraging its geographically distributed swarm network. IPFS is important for blockchain and for self described data integrity. Previously viewed content can even be accessed offline with IPFS! The IPFS network gives access to content even if it has been censored by corporations and nation-states, such as for example, parts of Wikipedia.

This is a small-but-important step towards decentralizing the web, which is becoming more and more important to more and more people every day.

Cloudflare goes interplanetary with IPFS Gateway

it’s exciting to see Cloudflare bridging the gap between IPFS and the traditional web.

Cloudflare’s IPFS Gateway is an easy way to access content from the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) that doesn’t require installing and running any special software on your computer. We hope our gateway, hosted at cloudflare-ipfs.com, will serve as the platform for many new highly-reliable and security-enhanced web applications.

For those who want a deep dive into IPFS check out the show we did with Juan Benet – The Changelog #204.

Hearth – publish personal websites with the power of IPFS

Drop a folder that contains your html/css/js in to the Hearth folder, right-click, copy the link, and you’re good to go. I love the motivation behind this project:

Back in the 90s, the web used to be a vibrant place of a myriad websites of different shapes and sizes, but nowadays it feels much more IKEA. Yes, it’s much easier to start a blog by signing up with Tumblr, but that means that everything nowadays looks the same and has none of the quirkiness and personality of the old web.

I’m 💯 behind efforts like this to bring back the “quirkiness and personality of the old web”.

IPFS dstatuspage.net

A decentralized StatusPage with no single point of failure published to IPFS

There are only two things required to make a status page good: availability and accuracy. It turns out you can get the first thing for free by publishing it to the permanent web!

Slowly, surely we are seeing more and more excellent use cases for IPFS. We’ve been keen on this tech ever since we did a show about it with Juan Benet a couple years ago. It’s worth a re-listen.
