AI artwork sells for $432,500 ↦
Daniel and I talked about this AI painting on Practical AI #18 a few weeks ago. At the time the painting was expected to yield $7,000 - $10,000 US.
Since then, Christie’s held an auction, and the Portrait of Edmond Belamy sold for an incredible $432,500 US.

I feel like this was a headline worthy anomaly that may not play out the same on the long-term of AI generated art. But jeez, this is crazy that an open source codebase on GitHub could 1) generate this art, and 2) be able to create some of such value. The seems to stem from this piece being one of the first most widely promoted/buzzed about pieces of AI art.
If the future of AI art is a six-figure plus business, then there literally is GOLD in them GitHub hills.
